This is quite the change from what I usually post on ze blog. Typically, I’ll be wearing quite the girly, feminine outfit. And I definitely don’t think I’ve ever posted an outfit consisting of leggings before. Actually, that’s a lie (see post here, here and here). Nonetheless, it’s definitely a rarity to be posting an outfit involving leggings on the blog. And to make it even more surprising, I’m wearing a rain jacket. A RAIN JACKET. I’m 100% positive I’ve never worn a raincoat on the blog before. Ugh, once again, that’s a lie – see post here. But that post is from seven years ago (wow, time sure does fly) so I thought it was time for a re-do, hey?

This pandemic has really brought out a whole other side of me. I’ve stepped out in public without makeup more times this summer than I have in my entire adult life. I wear leggings when I’m not working out. I wear sweatshirts and crewnecks to serve only one purpose- to keep me comfy and cozy. Although I have started to resort back to my pre-quarantine life and wearing my usual fancy schmancy outfits, this comfy casual side of me has also remained and honestly, I think it’s here to stay. And I ain’t mad about that.

So I guess we should talk about the elephant in the room: my new rain jacket. Most of my friends (and now all of you) are aware that I’ve never had an actual rain jacket before. That’s probably shocking but hear me out first. It never used to rain in Edmonton. Maybe it’s due to my bad memory but I don’t remember long seasons of rain in past years. But starting last summer, it’s rained an abnormal amount here, so I found myself desperately needing a rain jacket. And although I have a super duper cute pair of rain boots, a raincoat was the one thing missing from my rain attire. But that all changed this month. My sweet-ass boyfriend took me into Arc’teryx one day and surprised me with this jacket as a present for starting my MBA (oh yeah, I started my MBA (surprise!), there will be more about that later on ze blog).

I never really understood how magical a rain jacket could be before I tried this one on. This is the Beta Fast and Light Jacket from Arc’teryx. It’s an extremely lightweight jacket made with Gore-Tex which is fully waterproof, windproof and breathable. This is no ordinary rain jacket. I remember being completely shocked the first time I stepped out in the rain while wearing this. For someone who had never owned a raincoat before, it was such a bizarre feeling to be completely dry in the rain. Am I mansplaining rain jackets to all of you who probably already have rain jackets and this is nothing new to you? Yup, probably. Okay, okay but let me quickly talk about the features that make this jacket so great. First, the hood has an adjustable drawstring so I cinch it in at the back and it won’t fall over my eyes. Second, the length is longer in the back and it keeps my behind dry (v important). And last, the colour is just too cute. This coral shade adds the perfect feminine touch to an otherwise gender neutral rain jacket!

I wore this outfit while escaping to the mountains for a quick day hike and it served me well. Underneath my rain jacket, I wore this baby blue sweatshirt from Frank and Oak. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve worn my Frank and Oak sweatshirts during this pandemic. They are just too comfy. And I like that they’re 100% cotton and not too oversized or baggy. I don’t feel like too much of a slob when I’m wearing them. To perfectly match my crewneck, I’m wearing my Lululemon Align Crop leggings that are also in a baby blue colour. I’ve purchased THREE pairs of Lululemon leggings over quarantine (let’s not talk about how much online shopping i’ve been doing) but I don’t regret them one bit. The Align leggings are just so soft and comfy. I could live in them (and I have been).
