I have said before on ze blog that the only type of blush I wear anymore are cream blushes. In fact, the last blush review I did on ze blog was a cream blush review (the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Mini Liquid Blush Trio to be exact). And yet, here I am with a review on not one, but two powder blushes. I’m really switching it up on y’all. But the truth is, as much as I love cream blushes, they do take a little bit longer to apply. I have to make sure they’re perfectly blended or else they can look streaky or patchy. Plus they dry super quick so they’re a little bit more high maintenance than your average powder blush. And so, for that reason, I was feeling an urge to add another powder blush to my collection.
I have been wanting to try these Cover FX Monochromatic Blush Duos ($50CAD/$38USD) for quite some time now. They have just really appealed to me ever since they were launched in 2019. They are cased in this really nice soft matte casing and come with both a matte shade and shimmery shade in the same hue. And as you probably know by now, whether it’s cream or powder, I’m an absolute sucker for a shimmery or glowy blush.
I found these blush duos to be quite versatile. Because they come with both a matte and a shimmery blush, it gives you complete freedom over the type of blush look you might want that day. You can use just the matte side for a really natural cheek, just the shimmery side for a super glowy yet sheer blush look, or combine the two for both a pigmented and sparkly cheek! Although I usually opt for mixing the two finishes, I really love having that choice and picking exactly what kind of blush look I want depending on the rest of my makeup!
I picked up these Cover FX Monochromatic Blush Duos in two different shades, Soft Peach and Spiced Cinnamon because I honestly couldn’t decide which colour I would like better. And I’m so glad I did because both are absolutely gorgeous. Soft Peach is a stunning muted nude that is perfect for everyday. It definitely leans on the more brown side of peach rather than pink. Spiced Cinnamon is quite a bit darker and is more of a burnt terracotta with red undertones. Although all four blushes give good colour payoff, the matte formulas are definitely the most pigmented and bold. I have to make sure to go in with a very light hand when applying the matte Spiced Cinnamon shade. But all in all, very pretty blushes!
