The last perfume or fragrance post I wrote was actually a men’s cologne review (the Armani Beauty Stronger With You Parfum review that you can read here), so it’s about time I wrote one for the gals. Well, actually now that I’ve said that, I’m realizing both of these fragrances in today’s post are designated as being unisex. But then again, aren’t all fragrances unisex and it just all comes down to personal preference? So I guess everything I just said was a moot point. Let’s carry on.
So, I recently picked up two perfumes that are actually not new to me at all. These are two perfumes that I have reached for time and time again, but finally needed to restock in my collection. I have a lot of perfumes so if I’m re-buying a scent, you best believe they’re winners in my eyes. But, with having probably 100 perfumes or so in my collection, I opted for the mini travel size of both fragrances because I have no business buying multi-hundred dollar fragrances when I have so many others to use up.
Let’s start with the Maison Margiela Replica By The Fireplace Eau de Toilette ($46CAD for the mini 10ml size/$215CAD for the full 100ml size). I have loved this fragrance for as long as I can remember- at least a decade now, if not more. I remember a young lil’ Taylor smelling this scent for the first time and thinking there would not ever be a better smell in the world. Dramatic? Probably. But, accurate? Definitely. This is a warm gourmand scent- probably as warm as a scent can get. It’s made up of Clove Oil, Chestnut Accord, and Vanilla Accord to give it a spicy and woody aroma that is perfectly reminiscent of a cozy crackling fire. It is very much a winter scent and will forever be what I wear around Christmas to get me into the festive spirit. Although it’s an eau de toilette and suggests it might not be as intense as an eau de parfum, I actually find the opposite. It’s super long lasting and is one of those scents I can smell on myself throughout the whole day.
And that brings us to the next fragrance in this post which is the Kilian Angels Share Eau de Parfum ($65CAD for the mini 7.5ml size/$357.50CAD for the full 50ml size). I actually spoke about this fragrance on ze blog back in 2023 (read here) and it’s remained my all-time favourite perfume ever since. And spoiler alert: there’s a very high chance this will be my wedding day perfume. I went back and forth between buying a whole new perfume ot wear on my wedding day so that scent will always hold memories of that special day but the more I thought about it, the more my fiancé and I just wanted to smell like ourselves- something familiar and comforting. And that is exactly what this Kilian Angels Share perfume is. Like the Replica By The Fireplace perfume, this one is also very warm, sweet and exactly what you think of when you think gourmand (plus an extra little bit of spice). It’s notes include cognac essence (after all, it is designed after the Angels’ Share cocktail), oak absolute, cinnamon essence, tonka bean absolute, sandalwood, praline, and vanilla. Spicy, musky, warm, deep, sweet, sensual. It’s got it all. And once again, like the Replica By The Fireplace perfume, it is so long lasting. I only need one or two sprays of this and it’s lasting for days.
