When I first got my Clarisonic Mia almost five years ago (read that review here), I thought it was absolutely perfect. The Mia is just the most basic of the Clarisonic models with only one speed and really nothing more than that. However, I never thought I needed anything more, so I was always super pleased with the Mia for the five years that I had it. I used it for almost every day of those years and hopefully it has contributed largely to my skin improving!
However, I recently got the Clarisonic Smart Profile from work (honestly the best prize I have EVER received from Shoppers) and I was super excited to put it to the test. I must admit that I rarely recommend the other Clarisonic models to customers. I always just thought they were unnecessary, especially for the increase in price and that the one speed Mia was all anyone really needed. But, I can finally admit that I was very wrong. After trying the Clarisonic Smart Profile Device, which is their top of the line model, I can’t believe how much my opinions have changed! I also must admit that I really didn’t understand everything that the Clarisonic Smart Profile could do, so let’s jump in to that.
Clarisonic has five main models: The Mia, The Mia 2, The Mia 3, The Fit and the Smart Profile. The Mias are all pretty simple with the only main difference being the number of speeds. The Mia only has one universal speed while the Mia 2 has two speeds (delicate and universal) and the Mia 3 has (yup, you guessed it) three speeds (delicate, universal and powerful). The Fit model has two speeds like the Mia 2, but in a more compact design with a USB charger that makes it perfect for sticking in your gym bag or taking it on a trip.
But, the Smart Profile model really changes it up from it’s counterparts. The Smart Profile has FOUR speeds with a smart function that automatically changes speeds based on which region of your face that you are cleaning. I had no idea what that meant at first but basically, it has a specialized cleansing routine that operates on speed 3 (target cleansing) on your forehead for 20 seconds, your nose and chin for 20 seconds and then switches to speed 1 (gentle) for 10 seconds on each cheek! The machine beeps softly with each time interval to signal that it’s time to witch to the next region on your face. Super easy right? I especially love this function because I was getting a lil’ lazy with my Clarisonic Mia after five years of use, so I often skimped out on the minute cleansing routine and really only washed for my face for twenty seconds at best. But, this Smart Profile model really keeps me on track with the timing and beeps. Plus, it realizes that my forehead and nose area often needs a bit more heavy duty cleansing while my cheeks are more sensitive and delicate and thus, need gentler cleaning. However, if you don’t like the Clarisonic telling you what to do, you can also switch the mode into Manual or disable the beeps and do your own thang.
Another smart function that the Clarisonic Smart Profile includes is the battery life and replacement brush head indicator. The device can tell you what percentage of battery life is left and also shows a green or red battery symbol depending on the level. My Mia didn’t include this indicator so it was always dying without warning. Now I always know when to charge my Clarisonic! In addition, this device also tells you when to replace your smart brush head based on usage. It is recommended that you replace your brush head every three months, but it’s always a struggle to remember when those three months have passed so this function really takes care of that! One last function included with the Smart Profile is the Turbo button. This Turbo function gives an amplified power boost to deep clean on areas with heavy makeup or oil build up!
But what I especially love about the Smart Profile is that it’s not just for your face. It also comes with a Smart ‘Turbo Massage’ body brush head and a specialized body cleansing routine as well! It starts off with a pulsating 30 second foaming massage, followed by two minutes of all over cleansing on speed and then ending with another 30 second finishing massage. I find the body brush a little bit rough for my skin, but if you crave a bit heavier exfoliation on your body, then you would love it!
So the Clarisonic Smart Profile is good for cleansing both my face and my body, but that’s not all! Th
ere is also a Sonic Pedi set available as an add-on as well! The set comes with two brushes- a Smoothing Disc and a Wet/Dry Buffing Brush, the Pedi-Buff, the Pedi-Balm and the Pedi-Boost. The Wet/Dry Buffing Brush helps to scrub away dirt and debris and smooths dry, rough skin. For extra exfoliation, the Pedi-Buffis a exfoliating gel that helps to dissolve away rough, dead skin! You can then use the Pedi-Balm to hydrate and protect the smoothed feet daily! And twice weekly, use the Pedi Smoothing Disc on dry feet to smooth and soften followed by the Pedi-Boost (which is a sonic foot renewing peel) for additional skin softening and total exfoliation of dry skin.
But, as much as I love the Clarisonic Smart Profile system, there is definitely one thing I don’t love. The price. It retails for $339 CAD with the Pedi foot set costing another $99. However, the Mia is only $159 (but you can’t use the Pedi brushes on the Mia, so that’s definitely a downside). So I’m not sure if the functions of the Smart Profile is really worth the extra $180. If you’re tight on money, definitely go for the regular Mia. I’ve loved it for five years and never really had any complaints. It’s a super good starter system. But, if you’re looking to really pamper your skin, then splurge a lil’ (a lot?) on the Smart Profile and enjoy being able to use it on your face, body and feet.
