I think I jinxed it by saying in my last deodorant post that I rarely talk about antiperspirants or deodorants here on ze blog. And yet here we are. Talking about another deodorant less than two months later! The last antiperspirant I reviewed was the Clarins Mens Antiperspirant Stick and although I do love it, it’s not aluminum-free. As I said in that post, I know the dangers of aluminum antiperspirants and I wished I could switch to an all-natural deodorant. However, I just couldn’t find an aluminum-free deodorant that worked for me. So, when Pit Liquor reached out and asked if I wanted to try their natural, organic deodorants, I didn’t hesitate in saying yes!
Now, Pit Liquor is far from your usual natural deodorant company. Instead of going the traditional baking-soda route, Pit Liquor uses alcohol as their main de-stinker. And not just any alcohol. They use a mixture of vodka and whiskey in their formulas which just happen to be my two favorite alcohols (I kid, I kid but if they ever put Malibu Rum in their deodorants, then I will be really on board). So the question on all of y’all minds right now is probably how does alcohol stop you from stinkin’? Well, there are three types of bacteria that causes that B.O. – staphylococci, corynebacterium and antinobacteria. In the same way that hand sanitizer (with a 70% alcohol content) kills bacteria on your hands, the whiskey and vodka in Pit Liquor deodorants kills and combats the regrowth of bacteria on your armpits. And what makes this better than any baking-soda natural deodorant is that you’re not just neutralizing the odor, you’re killing it at the source. Cool, right?
Before we talk about how effective I personally found this deodorant, let’s talk about the different scents because let’s be honest, that’s the most fun part. Pit Liquor makes several different fragranced deodorants like Coconut Rum with Lime, Whiskey Lavender as well as Just Whiskey and an unscented Vodka variety! I tried out two of the scents in Whiskey Vanilla and Whiskey Black Pepper. Whiskey Black Pepper is a warm, woodsy scent with the black pepper and clove notes leaving a spicy aroma! Whiskey Vanilla has got to be my favorite however. It’s warm and sweet and subtle. The whiskey and vanilla pair perfectly together. Honestly, if this was a perfume, I’d buy it. In addition to the multiple scents, the Pit Liquor deodorants also comes in two different forms – a spray-on ($12.95USD) and a roll-on ($12.95USD). Both bottles last around 2-3 months and there’s even a refill bottle for $68USD that will refill your bottles 7.5 times! That’s great cost savings!
So, now, we have to talk about if this deodorant actually worked for me. The short answer is no. But whoa, whoa whoa! Don’t click out yet. There’s a reason it hasn’t worked for me and I have hope that it will eventually work. There’s this thing called armpit detoxing. In short, deodorants/antiperspirants that contain aluminum clog pores and lymph nodes (to stop you from sweating). And so, when you switch to a deodorant that doesn’t contain aluminum, your body needs to go through an adjustment period. Your armpits are purifying themselves and thus you’re going to find you sweat even more (and smell worse) than before. But, after a few days or even a few weeks, your body will regulate itself and an all-natural deodorant that actually kills the bacteria will work great for you! Or so I hope. But don’t just take my (or their) word for it! I will be updating you in the next couple of weeks or months, however long it takes, on if this deodorant actually works.

What was the long term result? Did you stick with it and see a reduction in odor?
