Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever Foundation

I don’t I’ve ever tried something from Sephora Collection. I love Sephora but their own line has just never interested me (actually that’s a lie- I bought one of their clearance eyeliners for $4 once to make it over the $50 minimum for free shipping). The whole line seems like drugstore quality for slightly higher than drugstore prices. However, my aversion to Sephora Collection seemed to be taking a turn (or so I thought…) when I started seeing this new foundation everywhere. The name itself was enough to make me want to buy it. Afterall, it is called the Best Skin Ever Liquid Foundation ($25CAD/$20USD). Plus I bought it during the VIB sale at Sephora when the entire Sephora Collection was 30% off so I figured there was no harm in trying it out. What’s not to love? Well, I sure found out the answer to that question.

This foundation initially intrigued me because it’s described as a foundation that feels like a light coverage skin tint but it promises buildable medium coverage on the skin. It’s supposed to deliver a second-skin effect while providing lasting hydration and covering imperfections. Its formula is designed to reduce any signs of stress or fatigue, and make skin the skin more smooth, even, and radiant. It also has Brown Algae Extract in the formulation to provide an anti-pollution protective shield. Sounds pretty up my alley, hey? Wrong. This foundation couldn’t be further from that description.

For starters, the shade range is way off (extensive, but off). I took the “Find Your Shade” quiz to see what shade I would be and I was recommended the colour 20 N – for light-medium skin with neutral undertones. Anyone who has ever seen me know that my pale skin would never ever be described as light-medium. The reviews also contained a lot of people mentioning that they were recommended horrible matches as well. So, instead, I got 04 N – for fair skin with neutral undertones. Now, in hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have just grabbed the lightest shade but in my defense I usually am the lightest shade in any foundation so I figured it would be the safest bet. Shopping for makeup online is hard, y’all. This foundation turned out to be the palest, whitest, yellowest foundation I have ever seen. So, in conclusion, a horrible match.

Regardless of the poor shade match, the foundation itself is not any better. I tried this foundation so many times thinking it might be a bad combo with whatever cream or primer I was using, but no. Everytime I tested out this foundation, it look absolutely horrible. First, it stuck to even the slightest of dry patches on my skin. I have quite oily skin so this was quite the surprise to me. My nonexistent dry skin was suddenly severely highlighted by this foundation. It was so patchy and blotchy. Second the coverage of this foundation is just weird. It looked cakey and thick yet didn’t provide me the coverage I expected on my imperfections and breakouts. It was like the worst of both worlds.

As for its promises of hydration and long wearing finish, I can’t say I noticed anything special about either. As a whole, the foundation was just very, very disappointing. But, what I found interesting was that the reviews on this foundation were good for the most part. On Sephora, it received an average of 4.3 stars out 5, although there were a sprinkling of reviews that seemed to align with how I felt. In addition, the majority of the Youtube Beauty Gurus that I trust and watch seemed to have the same opinions and viewpoint as me. So, in conclusion, I guess this is going to be a foundation that you either absolutely love or hate. There is no in between. I would love to hear if you’ve tried this foundation and if it works for you or not! Let me know in the comments below. Interesting review! I just bought some of their foundation and the color matching in the store was really good for myself and my daughter. We both loved the foundation. It looked very light and natural.
