It’s December and up until a couple days ago, Edmonton had zero snow. For all of you non-Edmontonians, that is just absolutely bizarre. And I have to admit, the snowless exterior was really affecting my Christmas Spirt. So, in the search for a snowy white Christmas, my boyfriend and I headed to the Rocky Mountains (Kananaskis to be specific) where to our dismay, there was also a surprising lack of snow, but the wonderful amount of Christmas festiveness made up for it.
Now let’s just talk about Kananaskis for a second. I haven’t stayed at the Kananaskis Mountain Lodge since I was a wee child. It has since been taken over by Marriott’s Autograph Collection and it might possibly be the most perfect resort ever. The whole hotel was decked out in Christmas Trees and decorations and lights. There were s’mores by the bonfire outside every night and it even houses the Kananaskis Nordic Spa on the property. If you’re looking for the most perfect Christmas getaway, I can’t recommend this hotel enough.
But, this post isn’t all about Kananaskis. Instead, we’re here to talk about my outfit. I love winter outfits and I especially love them when it’s not -40°C out and I can wear cute wintery pieces instead of just being bundled up in a parka and a thousand layers. See- now I’m complaining and complimenting Edmonton’s weird December weather in the same blog post.
Let’s start with my sweater. I am obsessed with stripes right now. I don’t know what it is, but I can’t get enough of them. I think I’ve bought six striped tops within the past couple of months. That’s not normal. But, out of my extensive collection of striped shirts, this sweater is definitely my favorite. It’s the Gap 24/7 Split-Hem Turtleneck Sweater in the Black & White Breton Stripe colour way. It’s a super nice quality knit made out of 100% cotton so you don’t have to worry about it pilling, fuzzing or stretching out. It features a lovely folded turtleneck that isn’t too tight, with long sleeves, dropped shoulders and ribbed cuffs. It also has a split hem which I always love paired with an oversized style to give it some shape. This sweater is perfection and it’s taking everything in me not to buy it in another colour.
I paired the sweater with my favourite Citizens of Humanity black Olivia jeans and this Wilfred Charlize coat in the Rich Chestnut shade from Aritzia. You might think this coat looks familiar even though I have never actually worn it on the blog and that is because I own it in two other colours (sage green and burgundy) which have been featured on ze blog extensively. A tell tale sign that I love something is when I own it in multiple colours and boy oh boy, do I love this coat. It’s lightweight because it’s not lined, but also warm enough due to it’s wool composition for a late fall or early winter day. And, these coats just hold up so well. I’ve had the burgundy one for four years now and it’s still in great shape. I have even travelled with the sage green one all over Japan. They’re just really great coats.
Accessories, because I was on vacation, were kept simple. I wore my new Classic Mini Uggs in Mustard Seed. I think this is my fifth pair of Uggs over the last decade and a half (I don’t know why I didn’t just say 15 years) and my obsession with Uggs will not be stopping anytime soon. As soon as it gets moderately cold out, this is the only footwear I reach for. I almost contemplated getting these in the platform style but you know I would be sure to break an ankle in those. These are just much more practical and comfy. And I am all about being practical.
To complete my outfit, I have my Longchamp Le Pliage Green Cosmetic Case in Cognac. I love this purse and bought it immediately when this style was going viral on TikTok. I did buy the crossbody strap separately online, but I must say I much prefer carrying this bag by the short lil’ handle instead. It’s just so cute and holds so much. And there we have it. This outfit really does encompass all of my favourite fashion pieces at the moment and I would recommend each and every one of them.
