Does the Miniso Brush Head fit on a Clarisonic?

My obsession with Miniso is at an all time high. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this wonderful, wonderful store, it is basically a Chinese and Japanese dollar store. Or, in better terms, it’s “a global retailer specializing in high-quality, designer lifestyle goods at a low-price” (miniso.ca, 2019). Ahh yes, that description makes it sound much better than just your average dollar store. Because it really is miles ahead of your average dollar store.

So I was strolling through the aisles in Miniso the other day (for probably two hours) and I came across these brush heads meant for their own Miniso-branded Ultrasonic Facial Deep Cleansing Devices ($19.99CAD). Now let me tell ya, their device looks exactly like my old Clarisonic Mia that I used to have so it got me to thinking: would the Miniso replacement brush heads fit the Clarisonic? Clarisonic brush heads are a pretty penny at $30 but just guess how much the Miniso ones are. $3.99. Yes, you heard that right. At almost a tenth of the price, how could I not try it out and see if it fits on my Clarisonic.

Upon examination of the Miniso brush head in the store, I could see that the hardware on the bottom of the brush head looked almost exactly the same to what my Clarisonic brush head looks like (at least according to my memory) with all the same grooves and notches. But it seemed too good to be true. How could a $4 brush head fit on a $400 device? But I figured $4 was worth it to spend on a cool science experiment that had the potential to save me a lot of money in the long term.

And guess what.

The Miniso brush head does fit on the Clarisonic. And not only that, but it spins correctly and does everything that a Clarisonic brush head would do. So, are they the exact same brush head? The short answer is no, no they are not. Although they look almost exactly the same (as pictured beside a Clarisonic Deep Pore brush), they differ in one large way: the material. The Miniso Brush Heads are made out of ABS Nylon while the Clarisonic brush heads are made out of FDA-grade DuPont TYNIEX® Supersoft Filament. A lot of fancy words there but what I’m hearing is that they are not made out of the same material and Clarisonic uses a much higher quality, softer fibre. Can I tell this difference when I use it on my face? I think so. I’ve been using the Clarisonic Luxe Cashmere Cleanse Brush Head ($36CAD/$30USD) for the past 2 years (not the same one, dont worry, I’ve bought multiples over the years) so I have to admit I’ve forgotten what Clarisonic’s normal brush heads feel like. But comparing it to the Clarisonic Deep Pore Brush Head ($30CAD/$27USD) that I had stored in my bathroom, they feel almost exactly the same but when I go to use it on my face, the Miniso one feels slightly rougher. It’s just not as soft. I think.

However, with the Clarisonic brush heads being $30 a pop and needing to be replaced every 3 months (as recommended by Clarisonic), this Miniso brush head really is a steal. Sure it might not be as soft, but I might just be willing to forgive that to save $26. However, because my skin is hella sensitive and covered in acne more times than not, I use the Clarisonic Cashmere brush head to not irritate my skin further. Thus, I will not be buying this Miniso brush head again. But if you don’t have as sensitive skin as me and want to save a couple of bucks, I think this is a great steal of a product!

Wow, I think I wrote this post half-asleep. In case everything I wrote above does not make sense, here is the TLDR version:

  • It looks and feel very similar to Clarisonic brush heads especially the Clarisonic Deep Pore brush head.
  • It’s only $3.99 as compared to the $30 price tag of Clarisonic brush heads.
  • It’s made of ABS Nylon while Clarisonic brush heads are made out of FDA-grade DuPont TYNIEX® Supersoft Filament.
  • It’s definitely not as soft as my favorite Clarisonic Cashmere Brush Head so I will continue to use that because my skin is hella sensitive.
  • Buy it if you don’t have sensitive skin and you’re on a tight budget.

It’s such a great alternative especially now that Clarisonic is out of business!

Just a heads up, Miniso has changed their replacement heads. Be sure to check this carefully before you purchase so you don’t end up like me, with 3 heads that don’t fit my Clarisonic Mia
