Two years ago, I started to get the feeling that my beloved YSL Nu Bare Look Skin Tint was being discontinued. It seemed like the shades were getting harder and harder to track down, and I began to panic. The YSL Nu Skin Tint ($59.50CAD/$48USD) is probably my most-used makeup product and the item that made me fall in love with skin tints over a traditional foundation. You just can’t beat the comfort and lightweight feel of a tint. So, naturally, when I suspected the YSL Nu Tint was being discontinued, the search began for something to replace it. And two years ago, that was the Sephora Collection Reveal The Real Skin Tint ($31CAD/$24USD). I wrote a whole post about it. It excelled in terms of its longevity and lightweight formula, but it was just slightly too glowy and radiant for my oily, acne-prone skin. But now, I think another skin tint has entered the running to become the official replacement for the YSL Nu Bare Look Tint.
And that is the Kylie Cosmetics Skin Tint Blurring Elixir ($43CAD/$34USD). I’ve never been a huge fan of Kylie Cosmetics. I’ve tried her highlighter (or Kylighter, if you will) and bronzer, but neither product really stood out to me. However, the Kylie Cosmetics Skin Tint Blurring Elixir might change all of that.
First of all, it’s made in Italy. Italy is essentially the mecca of makeup production and development, so when a brand invests in manufacturing a product there, it’s usually a good sign. Second, the formula is incredible. It’s super silky, lightweight, and has a really natural, skin-like finish. It’s neither glowy nor matte. I’d say it leans slightly more matte than the YSL Nu Skin Tint without ever looking flat or feeling drying. Because it contains hyaluronic acid, it helps to hydrate the skin and doesn’t cling to any dry patches or settle into fine lines throughout the day. I’d classify the coverage as light to medium. I find that it’s pretty buildable if you need slightly more coverage in certain areas. And third, it’s long-lasting. I find that many skin tints have the tendency to slip off my face throughout the day as compared to traditional foundations. However, the Kylie Skin Tint promises up to 12 hours of wear and honestly, I’d say it comes pretty close. It doesn’t separate, break apart, or become patchy on my oily skin. I do have to set it with a translucent powder but that’s a given due to my skin type.
So, between the three skin tints- YSL Nu Bare Look Tint, Sephora Collection Reveal The Real Skin Tint, and Kylie Cosmetics Skin Tint Blurring Elixir– which one comes out on top? That’s a good question. And that’s probably a good sign that I’m having such a difficult time choosing. Honestly, I currently use all three. Not on the same day, of course, but I reach for each one depending on how my skin is feeling or behaving that day. If my skin is feeling dry or needs slightly more coverage, I opt for the Sephora Collection Reveal The Real Skin Tint. If I want my tried-and-true beloved skin tint, it’s time for the YSL Nu Bare Look Tint. And for an everyday makeup look, it’s the Kylie Cosmetics Skin Tint Blurring Elixir. All three are just so good.
That said, I’ve been incredibly impressed with the Kylie Skin Tint and genuinely can’t think of any major negatives. So although it feels like I’m cheating on YSL (though, to be fair, they technically cheated on me first by discontinuing it), my winner is the Kylie Skin Tint. There. I said it. I picked a favourite.
