I would say I’ve had quite the fashion evolution over the past couple of years. I look back at my high school self when I first started this blog and I envy how trendy I used to be. Sure, those outfits are definitely not in style anymore, but dang, I was a stylish lil’ seventeen year old. Maybe I’m delusional but I really thought I was on top of the trends back in the day. And that’s just not something I can say about present-day Taylor.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I wouldn’t say I’m not stylish now. I think I dress okay. And the most important thing is that I like what I’m wearing these days. However, I’m just not trendy anymore like I once was. Let’s think about what was trendy in 2022 and what is trendy in 2023. We have the whole balletcore movement, low-rise pants, oversized suits, chunky loafers and boots and probably a whole bunch of other things I don’t even know about. And do I wear any of those things? Nope. My style is much more classic these days and I’m okay with that. I’ve been trying to buy pieces that I will continue to wear for years to come (we love a sustainable queen!), whether that be in the office or at home. And this outfit is a perfect representation of that.

Each of the items that I am wearing today have been extremely well-loved by me. Lets start off with this striped t-shirt from H&M. Now, I know H&M is the epitome of fast-fashion and fast trends, but dang this tee is a good one. I had been looking for a striped tee to add into my wardrobe and when I came across this one, I knew it was a match made in heaven. It’s a cream and black t-shirt which I think slightly elevates it compared to your typical stark white and black striped shirt. It’s a thick, rigid cotton so I think hope it will hold up over time and it just goes with every outfit. It’s one of those tops that I find is constantly in the laundry hamper because as soon as it’s clean again, I wear it. It’s just so good!

Overtop of the tee, I’m wearing the Wilfred Diaz jacket, a faux leather jacket from Aritzia. I got this one on super clearance a couple of years ago and I love it. Aritzia just does their faux leather so well. It’s buttery soft and wears so well over time. It’s also surprisingly breathable for essentially being plastic. Everyone needs a good (faux) leather jacket in their wardrobe. As for jeans, I’m wearing these Denim Forum Arlo jeans, also from Aritzia. Now, I don’t think these are the most flattering jeans for my body type, but boy oh boy, are they comfy. They’re a high waisted style with a straight-leg in a simple mid blue wash and a button fly. They’re just such a classic pair of denim.

I accessorized this simple outfit with simple accessories. I added a pair of cheap black sunnies from Urban Outfitters that were once bought for a Mexico trip but have quickly become my go-to sunglasses as well as my well-worn cream leather Vans. I also incorporated a black purse from Oak and Fort that has a very simple silhouette and matches any and every outfit. It’s surprisingly good quality for being so cheap, I’d highly recommend! And that’s my outfit! Nothing too exciting but quintessentially Taylor.

Reflecting on my fashion journey, I see a significant evolution. Looking at my high school self, I’m envious of the trendy outfits I once rocked. Despite their current status, those styles made me a stylish seventeen-year-old. Perhaps I’m biased, but the confidence I felt back then echoes the iconic “Drive jacket.”
