There’s been a lot of skincare content on ze blog lately, but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Now that winter has (so kindly) left us, it’s time to switch up the skincare routine to a more spring-friendly lineup. And there’s no better way to do that than with some fun Dr. Idriss products and this skincare review.
I don’t know about you, but my skin freaks out whenever there’s a major temperature change. And with May constantly swinging through 10-degree variations every day, my skin doesn’t know what you think and it’s been acting out. So fun!!
But, luckily, Dr. Idriss is here to save the day.
Let’s start with the Major Fade Disco Block SPF 50 ($38USD) first because a good sunscreen is essential when heading into this warmer weather. It’s advertised as a 3-in-1 sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection while instantly brightening and reducing the appearance of any sun damage. And it doesn’t stop there! The DISCO part of its name stands for all of its major benefits: D – defends against rays, I – illuminates with a glowy finish, S – smooths on with a whipped, fluffy texture, C – corrects uneven skin tone and the look of dark spots, and O – outperforms with intense hydration and antioxidant protection (with the help of Amla Fruit Extract)! It also contains ceramides for skin barrier support and leaves no white cast! Sounds like the perfect sunscreen, right? Right.
And the skincare fun doesn’t stop there! In the same Major Fade lineup, we also have the Dr. Idriss Major Fade Active Seal Moisturizer ($82CAD/$58USD). This is one I was particularly excited to try. I love a good Vitamin C cream, as I’ve struggled with pigmentation and post-acne marks for the majority of my life. And this one is no ordinary Vitamin C cream. It doesn’t just contain Vitamin C. Instead, it features a combination of actives, including 4-butylresorcinol to fade any discolouration, Hexapeptide-2 to reduce the appearance of fine lines, and a combination of Vitamin C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) plus Glutathione to brighten the skin and help defend against environmental pollution. The cream also contains a blend of ceramides and lipids to keep your skin barrier strong and intact. But even with all of this, it’s still a lightweight gel texture, so it’s perfect for combination skin types like mine.
The last product (or should I say products?) of the bunch is the Dr. Idriss Barrier Baste Lip Basting Duo ($62CAD/$44USD). This set contains both the Barrier Baste Lip Peel as well as the Barrier Baste Lip Baste. This combination’s mission is to rescue your chapped lips and provide instant relief.
The Barrier Baste Lip Peel is a chemical exfoliator that is specially designed for your lips. It helps to gently smooth away dry and rough skin while hydrating at the same time. It uses a blend of Mandelic Acid (an AHA) and Gluconolactone to lightly exfoliate while drawing moisture into the skin. After exfoliating, you can apply the Barrier Baste Lip Baste to soothe your lips and lock in moisture. It also contains squalane and ceramides to continuously protect your lip barrier and prevent moisture loss.
