This is actually a very timely post because I was just talking with my coworkers all about our favourite mascaras. I feel like mascaras are sometimes overlooked in the beauty world. I mean, they’re not the most exciting makeup product, but I am one picky gal when it comes to mascara. There’s a whole list of things I want my mascara to do and recently, I added one more bit of criteria to that list: the colour.
I have been dying for a brown mascara. I have used black mascaras, blue and navy mascaras, even burgundy mascaras. But I have never found a good brown mascara. And lately, I’ve been finding that black mascara looks just a bit too harsh on my eyes (although I do love a good black mascara), especially when I’m opting for a more natural or minimal makeup look. And so, I decided to try a couple of brown mascaras from Sweed: the Cloud Mascara and the Lash Lift Mascara.
Sweed Lash Lift Mascara
The Sweed Lash Lift Mascara (€26 EUR / $30 USD) is a godsend. It has this super skinny brush that only has bristles on one end, so you can get right to the base of your lashes and coat them from root to tip. It’s so good at lifting, lengthening and separating the lashes. It gives them the perfect curl and lift without having to use an eyelash curler, which I love!
The formula is great as well. It’s infused with Vitamin B5 and Panthenol which help improve elasticity and reduce breakage. It’s also a very lightweight formula so it doesn’t weigh down your lashes and holds the curl while being flake free and smudge free. I love a mascara that lasts all day without transferring onto my oily eyelids, and this one definitely delivers.
And the brown colour is stunning. It’s a dark brown so it still gives my blonde lashes the definition they need but it’s much softer and more flattering with my fair skin tone than a traditional black mascara. It’s exactly the kind of brown mascara I’ve been looking for.
Sweed Cloud Mascara
And the Sweed Cloud Mascara (€28 EUR / $30 USD) is equally as good. It has a very similar formula to the Lash Lift Mascara, with it’s lightweight, Vitamin B5-infused formula, but the wand on this one is where it really differs from its counterpart.
The brush is significantly bigger with a cone shape and rubber bristles that volumize each lash while still precisely separating them for a dramatic fanned out look. You can even pair the Cloud Mascara and the Lash Lift Mascara together for the best of both worlds in terms of lengthening and volumizing. I always love to layer a mascara to get the best, longest, and most dramatic lashes. And of course, I got this mascara in the dark brown shade as well. I’m just a loyal brown mascara girly now.
Sweed Satin Kohl Eyeliner
But this post isn’t all about mascaras. I also tried out the Sweed Satin Kohl Eyeliner (€24 EUR / $23 USD) and oh my goodness, I’m obsessed. I’ve been wanting a brightening eyeliner for a while now but I just haven’t loved the ones I’ve tried. I eventually wrote them off, thinking that they just weren’t complementary to my skin tone and that was that. But this Satin Kohl Eyeliner in the Bright shade changed my mind completely.
First of all, this eyeliner on the waterline is amazing. It lasts for so long without smudging or simply disappearing throughout the day. It’s also the perfect pinky nude that looks so natural yet provides just that extra bit of brightening to make my eyes look bigger.
It’s also a fantastic eyeliner to use on the inner corners as it’s super creamy and blendable but then stays put once it sets. It doesn’t clump up or look flaky or dry like I’ve experienced with other liners once I try to pat them out in my eyes’ inner corners. It truly just does its job so well.
I didn’t know if brown mascara would become a staple in my makeup routine, but I’m honestly converted. The Sweed Lash Lift Mascara is my pick when I want defined, lifted and lengthened lashes, while I opt for the Cloud Mascara when I’m looking for a more voluminous and dramatic, fanned-out look. And the Satin Kohl Eyeliner is the best pencil to pair with either eye look. A match made in heaven.
