The New My Clarins Skincare Range

I feel like Clarins might just be the most talked about brand here on ze blog. I have been using their skincare for years now. I started out with their Hydra-Essentiel Silky Cream (formerly known as Hydra Quench back in the day) (review here) in 2014 and then eventually converted to the Multi-Active Day Cream (review here) to prevent any aging at the ripe age of 22 in 2017. I’ve gone back and forth between those two creams.. until now. Clarins recently launched a whole new range called My Clarins. Now I have to admit, Clarins might have missed the mark on their marketing with this one. I don’t know about you but naming a line “My Clarins” makes it seems like it’s for pre-teens or for first-time skincare users. It’s like “baby’s first skincare routine”, y’know? But that’s not the intention behind this line at all.

My Clarins was developed as a detoxing and nutritious skincare routine for any age, any skin type. It flushes out toxins and pollutants while feeding the skin with nutrients thanks to fruit and plant extracts. And, the line is completely vegan. What’s not to love?! There’s nine products in the line and I have five here to talk about today so let’s jump right into it because there’s a lot to say.

RE-MOVE Purifying Cleansing Gel ($20USD/$22CAD)

I am surprisingly sooo picky about my cleansers. You would think they’d be the least important part of a skincare routine but I strongly disagree. I need the perfect cleanser. It can’t be too harsh and strip my skin of all it’s natural oils but it also can’t be too gentle that my skin doesn’t feel clean afterwards. It needs to effectively remove all of my makeup while also leaving my skin feeling not tight. It’s a Goldilocks and the Three Bears type scenario. It has to be just right. And this RE-MOVE Cleansing Gel is. It’s a foaming gel (my favorite consistency) that contains Moringa extract to fight pollution build-up in your skin, Meadowsweet extract to purify the skin and Organic Bitter Orange Flower Water to soften and protect the skin against the drying effects of hard water. It also visibly reduces the look of pores while leaving the skin looking radiant, smooth, shine-free and refined. It’s a really great cleanser and honestly, for $20USD/$22CAD, it can’t be beat.

RE-BOOST Refreshing Hydrating Cream ($25USD/$27CAD)

Whenever any skincare brand launches an all-new line, I judge it solely based on the cream. If a brand can make a damn good cream then I fully believe they are on the right track to making me fall in love with their whole line. And (drum roll, please), Clarins killed it with their creams in this line. Plural? Yes. Clarins created three creams for three different skin types: the Matifying Hydrating Cream for oily or combination skin, the Comforting Hydrating Cream for dry skin and this one, the Refreshing Hydrating Cream for normal skin. It is a lightweight cream-gel that is infused with a blend of plant and fruit extracts like Organic Goji Berry, Fig, Acerola seed, Organic Apricot oil and Tamarind pulp acids as well detoxifying flower waters to keep your skin radiant and hydrated throughout the day. So why exactly do I love this cream so much? The reasons are pretty simple. It keeps my skin hydrated. It doesn’t make me breakout. It’s super lightweight and refreshing on the skin; no sticky business. It smells good. And it’s only $27 (CAD). I’m used to paying over $50 for a cream so it’s a nice change to pay only half of that for a cream that I equally love.

RE-CHARGE Relaxing Sleep Mask ($27USD/$29CAD)

Sleeping masks seem to be the new trend in the skincare world. More and more brands seem to be coming out with them ever since Laneige stepped out with their beloved Water Sleeping Mask. And Clarins wasted no time following suit with their new RE-CHARGE Relaxing Sleep Mask. This sleeping mask can be used as a night cream if you apply a thin layer and allow it to fully absorb in or you can apply a generous amount and treat it as more of an overnight mask to wash off in the morning. It made my skin so soft and smooth and gave it a nice rosy glow. And I’m pleased to say it was not too oily for my skin and no pimples were caused, hooray!

CLEAR-OUT Targets Imperfections ($19USD/$21CAD)

Okay, okay, I know I’ve been absolutely raving about My Clarins up until this point, but all good things have to come to an end eventually. Although I love that Clarins finally decided to launch an acne product (after discontinuing their previous spot treatment a couple years ago), this CLEAR-OUT blemish gel just didn’t work with my skin. I really wanted to love it. I thought because it was plant based and didn’t have a high concentration of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide (instead it contains a low percentage of salicylic acid in combination with Meadowsweet extract to purify and Purslane extract to soothe inflammation), my skin would be a lot happier with it. However, I found that my skin broke out more when I used this on my acne. That’s never a good thing. But, as I’ve said before with acne products, just because it didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you. Acne products are so personal.

RE-FRESH Hydrating Beauty Mist ($20USD/$22CAD)

I think this might be the thing I was most hyped to try in the My Clarins line. Setting sprays and hydrating mists are slowly starting to make their way into more and more skincare brands’ lineups and I couldn’t be more excited about that. I love me a good face spray. This Hydrating Beauty Mist contains Fig and Acerola seed extracts as well as Robinia Flower water to refresh, hydrate, soothe and soften the skin. Plus it’s an alcohol-free formula so it’s super gentle on the skin and you don’t have to worry about spraying it on your eyes! But what I especially love about this face spray is the nozzle. I am incredibly picky about the pressure of a spray. I don’t want my face drenched in one spray but I also don’t want to have to press the nozzle a dozen times to get a good amount of the mist on my face. This one sprays out such an even amount and gently coats my face. It’s perfect.

Some other items in the range that I haven’t had the chance to try out yet include a micellar milk and a blurring, mattifying stick. Based on how much I loved the rest of the products, I think these will fully deliver on my high expectations as well.
