Wowie Maui!

Nothing pains me more to be writing this post about what I wore in sunny Maui when I am currently huddled in a blanket with falling snow and -30°C weather outside. If I had a genie at my service granting me one wish right now, you best believe it would be to transport me back to Hawaii because to say I miss it would be a vast understatement. I went at the beginning of February for five days after booking a very spontaneous trip. I think I bought the flights less than a week before I hopped on the plane. But it was one of the best trips I had ever been on and I think that means I’m starting this decade off right. So here’s to more spontaneous trips and just living life to the fullest in 2020!

This was my first time visiting Hawaii and man oh man, the place is truly magical. We stayed on Maui and I was so shocked at how gorgeous the whole island is. We drove to Hana, went snorkeling, kayaking, ate ALL the best food, and spent a lot of time on beaches. It was the most perfect trip. I had never gone on a tropical trip during the winter before so it was quite the shock going from -30°C weather to +30°C weather. That’s a 60° temperature change and I loved every single second of it (except when I had to come back home and experience the 60° temperature drop).

However, the one thing about going to a hot destination during the winter is that I found it extremely hard to pack. I am usually a pro packer, but I found it very challenging to get in the “summer” mindset and pack strictly summer clothes. I wanted to pack jeans and sweatshirts and leggings and more cozy items but everyone I talked to warned me against that. And they were right. The second I stepped off the plane in Maui, I wanted the least amount of clothing on my body. The humidity is no joke there.

And because I didn’t want to wear pants once while I was there, I wore this dress constantly. This is the Wilfred Ninette Dress from Aritzia in the Tuscan Sun colour and I was so glad to have a chance to wear it again. This dress features a wide scoop neckline and ruffle details at the sleeves and hem with a wrap that ties at the waist. It’s made with a drapey silk-like fabric from Japan that doesn’t wrinkle at all. It’s the perfect dress to pack in your suitcase.  And the colour, a bright orangey mustard yellow, couldn’t have been more perfect for Hawaii.

I think I wore this dress three times during my five day trip because it’s so versatile. I wore it out for dinner one night at a brewery with my Adidas Sleek sneakers and a white denim jacket to dress it down and then also paired it with sandals at night when I wanted to look a little more put it together. And, as you can tell by these photos, it’s a great beach dress as well! Let’s all cross our fingers and hope that I will get the chance to wear it again at a beach sometime very soon. I miss everything about Hawaii.
