I’ve been on a pretty strict no-buy for the months of November and December. If you haven’t seen my last Vlog (yes, video blog), then you wouldn’t know I actually moved out at the beginning of December! And boy oh boy, moving out is expensive. There was so much I had to buy that I couldn’t even fathom that thought of spending any of my precious, hard-earned money on clothes, makeup, jewelry or shoes. And yet, here we are- writing a blog post all about these new perfumes I just bought. But I swear this is the only non-furniture thing I’ve bought in the past two months (just ignore the MAC eyeshadow and Simons earrings I should be receiving in the mail any day now, whoops).
So, I’m not even going to say my usual spiel about Kristin Ess Hair. We should all know by now just how much I love both Kristin Ess and her company and how obsessed I am with each and every one of her products. And if you’re not familiar with my love for her, please check out these posts here: my reviews on Kristin Ess French Pins and the scalp line, my Kristin Ess gift guide and lastly, an overview of some of her most popular products. I’m well on my way to having reviewed almost the entirety of her product line. Now that is a goal I want to accomplish.
But surprisingly, we aren’t talking about hair today. Although this is indeed a Kristin Ess Hair review, she actually launched a limited edition non-hair product: PERFUMES. But these aren’t just any ordinary perfumes. They are the scents of her various hair lines. I think the fragrance in Kristin Ess haircare is one of the reasons I love her products so much so I had to have these perfumes as well so I can smell like KE from head to toe. It’s an obsession, OKAY.
This limited edition Fragrance Discovery Set ($34.95CAD/$25USD) includes five eau de parfum travel sprays that are 10ml each. Honestly, I love that these are just mini perfumes because I have way too many fragrances to make my way through at this point. But let’s get on to the important topic of this post: the scents.
The first is The One Signature. This has notes of ambrette seed, magnolia, pear water, night violet, orris butter, new caledonia sandalwood and white amber. It is found in Kristin Ess’ signature collection (anything in the pink, white or light grey bottles). I got the full size of this fragrance last Christmas and it’s still one of my favourite perfumes. It’s light and fresh but also sweet and floral. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever smelled before and that’s why I love it so much. Next is Translucence One with notes of blonde wood, iso e super, ambroxan and crisp amber. Although it’s not currently featured in any Kristin Ess products, I’m sure it will be soon! This one is definitely more on the lighter and fresher side out of the five. Next is Translucence Two which has notes of pink pepper, apple, blonde tobacco, gardenia, white cedar wood and palo santo and is found in the clarifying range. It has a spicy sweet scent to it which I absolutely love! Translucence Three is the scent found in the scalp collection (the dark green bottles) and is one of my all time favourites. It has notes of coconut water, transparent water lily, iso e super, sheer blonde wood, palo santo + ambroxan. It’s woody and musky with a slight sweetness. It’s SO good. And last but not least is Milky Santal with notes of transparent jasmine, bourbon vanilla, blonde tobacco sandalwood cream + ambrette seed. This is the scent found in the curl collection (the rusty pink coloured bottles) and it is definitely the sweetest of the five with a hint of spice and musk.
Now that you know what all five of these perfumes smell like, there is one thing I should mention before I end this post. Although these perfumes smell absolutely delicious in the bottles, they do have a tendency to change once they’re on your skin. I know that all perfumes change a bit once they mix with your body chemistry, but these transform into entirely different scents! Don’t get me wrong, they still smell good but they don’t smell the exact same as in the bottle. I noticed this the most with Translucence Two. It went very peppermint-y on me which was interesting to say the least. But, another nice thing is that you can mix and match these perfumes and layer them to create a whole new, personalized scent! And they all smell delicious together no matter the combination you choose.
