Neutrals For Spring? Groundbreaking.

Like many years before this one, as soon as the snow disappears from the ground, I emerge from an anti-fashion hibernation of sorts. My puffy coats and Uggs get stored away once again and I start to actually put effort into my outfits. Some people do spring cleaning; I, on the other hand, prefer spring fashion.

I was invited to Bellissima, a local Albertan boutique here in Edmonton, the other day to check out their new spring collection in store. While the spring lineup was bursting with colour and gorgeous patterns, I was immediately drawn to these neutral brown pants and let me tell you why. I have been needing an in-between pair of pants for quite some time now. And what exactly do I mean by in-between? Well, I have my casual leggings and jeans that I wear on the weekend and then I have my dressy trousers that I wear to work, but I really had nothing in-between those two categories. And that’s where these pants come in. They are a pair of straight leg, cropped pants with a raw hem and traditional five-pocket construction. They’re essentially jeans, but not quite- meaning I can wear them for work but also casually like I have them styled in today’s outfit. And their neutral camel hue helps them go with nearly any look! Oh, and did I mentioned they’re insanely comfortable due to their cotton/polyester/spandex blend? It probably won’t come as a surprise when I say I’ve worn them almost every day since I got them from Bellissima. But I’m not just here to rub in your face how awesome these pants are. Now, on to the rest of my outfit details! I have been obsessed with this jacket lately. I saw it at Zara when I was on a road trip in Calgary and I immediately knew I had to have it. I don’t even remember the last time I bought something from Zara (they’ve been off their game for far too long), so I was quite surprised to find something there that I instantly loved. It’s a slightly cropped jacket with a lapel collar, front patch pockets and a shiny silver snap (try saying that three times fast) button closure. It looks like a cozy oatmeal coloured wool blend when in fact it’s just simply polyester (typical Zara). But this is the jacket that has been missing from my wardrobe my whole life. It’s the perfect level of warmth for spring and the neutral shade makes it a staple in every single outfit, just like the pants I’m wearing. I’m sure you’re seeing a common theme here. I’m now a neutrals gal (surprise!).

And yes, you’ve guessed it! The rest of my outfit was kept neutral as well. I’m wearing a black short sleeve linen-blend tee from Abercrombie. I will talk about my newfound obsession with Abercrombie & Fitch in another blog post soon, but just know that their t-shirts are my new favourite thing and vastly under-hyped. I then added this brown (faux) leather shoulder bag from Oak and Fort and a pair of black patent booties and my outfit was suddenly complete! Simple, but cute. Neutral, yet still lively. I must say, it sure feels good to be out of hibernation.
