Consider this my belated part 2 to a previous outfit post titled “A $9 Jacket“. However, instead of a $9 jacket, it is now a $19 jacket, which is still one heck of a deal in my books. As I’ve said before and I will continue to say, time and time again, I find the best deals at Forever 21. Hate on them all you want but some of my all-time favorite pieces are from them. Actually, we should be hating on them, myself included. They really are the originators of fast fashion and I shouldn’t be supporting them. Buuuut, they are going bankrupt, so I guess they are getting what they deserve (sorry, not sorry Forever 21). But regardless, I really should be more of an ethical shopper and I realize that. I’ve gotten much much better at doing my research and supporting more ethical companies (like Kotn and Everlane- two of my all-time favorite brands) as well as only buying pieces that I will wear for years and years to come, but I still have a long way to go. That will be my goal for 2020. No more fast fashion. That shouldn’t be a hard goal to hit. Let’s keep me accountable, folks.

Well, that took a dramatic turn of events. That definitely wasn’t what I was planning to talk about on ze blog today but I guess know saving our world is a whole of a lot more important than raving about how I got this jacket on such a good sale. But with that being said, despite unintentionally supporting a fast fashion company, I promise this jacket won’t go into the landfill anytime soon because I really do love it. It’s a brushed wool fabric in a brown and grey plaid with a slightly cropped, boxy fit. It’s a great summer to fall transition jacket!

For the rest of my outfit, I’m wearing a white t-shirt (surprise, surprise) from Kotn (a 10/10 on my personal ethics scale) and these grey ripped jeans from Citizens of Humanity (I’ve had them for almost five years now and they are still in perfect condition, no fast fashion jeans here) and my belt is vintage, the ultimate form of sustainability! Wow, this whole post is me just trying to prove I’m not a horrible person. But guess what? My shoes are also from Forever 21. And the cycle starts again. But I have worn these shoes probably over 100 times in the past two years.

But real talk. I feel like bloggers and influencers are some of the worst for supporting fast fashion companies. They’re expected to constantly put out new content and never repeat an outfit while being the trendiest they can possibly be. I think that’s why there’s been such a surge of companies that produce incredibly cheap but trendy clothing and why bloggers are so keen to promote them (no shit, Sherlock). So, I challenge all of my fellow bloggers to really think about what we are promoting and try to limit the amount of clothes we buy/receive. Let’s start making outfit repeating cool again!

That is a perfect fall look! I personally would love to see bloggers show how pieces can be versatile then always posting new fast fashion pieces.
